United Way works to develop a new strategic plan

United Way holds Mini Board Retreat

On Friday, June 4, 2021, the United Way of Davidson County held a mini board retreat at Bull City Ciderworks.

UWDC board members spent the day talking and learning about how they can better serve Davidson County.

Carole Peters, CEO & President of the United Way of Greater McHenry County in Illinois was a virtual guest speaker.  She shared a presentation on Top Secrets To Grow The Campaign Through Board Engagement.  “Carole and I met through social media in the spring of 2020, stated Kristie Hege, UWDC president.  Since that time, we have met virtually and talked on the phone numerous times to share ideas and innovative ways to improve the work we are doing.  Carole is a seasoned leader and has been so helpful in providing advice and words of wisdom as I embark on my new role as president.”

UWDC Board members also heard the results of their new strategic plan.  United Way Board Chair, John Clowney stated, “Our previous strategic plan carried us through 2020.  We reached out to Martha Larson with the Small Business Center at Davidson-Davie Community College and secured a grant to help us create a new strategic plan.  We contracted with Audrey Blackburn with Blackburn Consulting to develop our new plan. Audrey did an extensive outreach to the community to obtain feedback on our strengths and areas that need improvement.  Those conversations were used to help create our four areas of focus: Financial Stability & Reserves, Diversifying Fundraising, Community Education & Marketing and Diversity & Inclusion.  We are excited to build on our past and work toward making our United Way the best it can be in the future.”

The new strategic plan will carry the organization through 2023.

Marc Monson, this year’s United Way Campaign Chair said, “Today was awesome!  I really enjoyed engaging with other board members to brainstorm ideas and ways that we can work together to make an even greater impact in Davidson County.  We are excited about the upcoming campaign.  There is a renewed sense of community that I believe will help us achieve our $1.5 million dollar goal.”
