Our newest DL team member Julie Harshaw plans to make advertising fun!

We love local businesses, and advertising is how we keep Davidson Local free to readers. In the short seven months of our operation, we reached out to dozens of businesses. As our Business Development Specialist Julie will be helping us follow up on those creative advertising ideas, events and partnerships.

If you don’t know Julie, she also serves on several boards and committees. Plus, she’s the new marketing director at Smoke and Oak premium bourbon and cigar lounge.

Julie grew up in Loveland, a suburb of Cincinnati. She played lacrosse and has even coached on and off since school. She calls herself “All Cincinnati sports fan!” and credits her boyfriend for “teaching me how to be a southerner,” e.g., taking her camping for the first time without a camper next weekend.

Julie has a deep love for Lexington and Davidson County, so we knew she would be a perfect fit. “I love the food! BBQ, Sophie's, Pour Folk Pizza, I could keep going! The local food trucks that Brewer's Kettle always brings are wonderful, along with their beer of course.”

In 2018, Julie came to Davidson County by way of the American Children's Home and “fell in love with Lexington.” She recently left that position after three years. “I chose to leave to pursue all of the different opportunities that kept falling in my lap, like working with Davidson Local! I was so excited to join the team at Smoke and Oak and it was time to take a step back from working in a very demanding full-time role and exploring my different passions!” Although, Julie admitted it was hard to leave the children behind.

She was happy to be able to remain in the area. “I love being this close to the mountains. Hiking is a new hobby I have found since living in North Carolina. I have a 10-year-old son who is my hiking buddy!”

You can reach out to Julie by email at julie@davidsonlocal.com. Or stop by and see her at Smoke and Oak. She added, “I'm excited about all of the possibilities. Working with a small team to make a really incredible result is something I'm lucky to be a part of, not once with Smoke and Oak but twice with Davidson Local as well!”
