Thomasville Farmers Market hires new market manager

Thomasville — The Thomasville Farmers Market has hired a new farmers market manager, Mary Herrington. A native of Connecticut, Herrington has over 15 years of social media marketing experience. For 13 years, she was a micro-food business entrepreneur selling her products in Charlotte-based farmers markets. Before moving to North Carolina, Herrington owned and operated a gluten-free bakery and cafe in her home state.

Herrington, a Lexington resident, believes in focusing on her health. Having penned three cookbooks about healthy gluten and dairy-free eating, she’s also been featured in multiple  magazines and has been a keynote speaker across the United States regarding gluten free  nutrition. Most recently, she was the top organic, herbal, handmade chocolatier in the nation. A year ago, she closed her chocolate business due to rising prices caused by supply chain issues.  Herrington’s journey has assisted her in understanding every day is different and presents new tests especially as it relates to market vendors.

“Since Covid, the challenges we all face have become larger and more unpredictable than ever.  Having a strong farmers market in the community ensures your contribution to small, local, farmers and crafters keeps the money within your community allowing for more growth and  stability in the local business market.”

Despite the obstacles, Herrington is excited to lean on her sales, marketing and business acumen to help grow the market for a healthier ‘Chair City.’ She believes in the mission, vision and goals of the Thomasville Farmers Market and knows it can strengthen the city.

“The goal of a thriving farmers market is to bring together the community for a better economy, more business start-up opportunities and community education about nutrition. Shopping at the farmers market is not only an investment in one’s personal health, it’s an investment in the community.”

*This year, the Thomasville Farmers Market will open every Saturday from 8am until noon, starting April 22 through September 23. The market is located on the corner of East Guilford and Commerce Streets (under the water tower) in downtown Thomasville. As the market continues to grow, there will be additional cooking and garden related demos this season. You can also become a Friend of the market through the Friends Campaign or a corporate sponsor.”

All new vendors are subject to inspection and certification by Davidson County Cooperative Extension.
