AK's Column: National Poetry Month and mental health reflections

Washington Post critic Michael Dirda said it best in an article in early March, “In a time of crisis, poetry can help focus our fears and transform ‘noise into music.'" He writes, poetry “nourishes us, it contributes to our grieving and our healing processes, it gives focus to our loves and to our fears, allowing us to sing them, at the back of our minds, in a deliberate and disciplined transformation of noise into music, of grief into acceptance, of anger at pointless destruction into a determination to save at least something of what remains.”

Cheers to 200 Years! Bicentennial Brews: Beverages and Events

Together the Davidson County Historical Museum, Visit Lexington, and the Thomasville Tourism Commission are inviting local breweries, wineries, cideries, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants to offer a special-edition beverage release commemorating the Davidson County Bicentennial. Qualifying special-edition beverages could include new recipes but also label and non-label releases. Inspiration behind commemorative beverages could include, but is not limited to, a place, person, object, or event in local history and can include themes that predate the founding of the county. The possibilities are endless! If desired, the museum is available to provide research assistance and inspiration behind your special-edition beverage.

The 2022 Davidson County Farm Tour is a community and education outreach event hosted by Davidson County Local Food Network (DCLFN). DCLFN is the county's food council which is a network composed of farmers, food producers, health advocates who work towards building an equitable and resilient food system for the health and economic welfare of the community.
