For the third year in a row Anything For Our Youth Group is gearing up for a Juneteenth celebration set for Saturday, June 18th at 3 pm at Dunbar Park on 4th Street in Lexington. The festivities include a pageant and a creative writing contest. The historic walking tour will be led by Tyrone Terry, a local civil rights advocate that will begin at 2:30 pm.
During summer 2022, ADC received a grant from Novant Health and contracted with Phillip Shabazz, a well-known poet, author, and teaching artist to bring his "Powers of Poetry Project" to Davidson-Davie Community college for a teen summer camp for up to 25 teens. The "Powers of Poetry Project" is a creative writing workshop which concludes with a celebratory Poetry Slam.
Bull City Ciderworks, the non-profit PFLAG Lexington NC and Uptown Lexington are partnering to host the second annual Lexington PRIDE event on Saturday, June 25.

Fat Daddy Farms LLC is a locally owned farm in Thomasville, its purpose to provide a fun farm venue for community events. They host farm events themselves as well as weddings, birthdays and photoshoots.

Meet Charles and Pamela Leonard of Gentle Harmony Farm, an organic medicinal herb farm located in the Yadkin River valley. When they purchased the property in 2008, they didn't intend for it to become a working farm as they had retired. Pamela had an increasing interest in herbal medicine that, coupled with their desire to have a productive second career, led them to a world of sustainable, organic agriculture.

Each year, a group of around 100 volunteers participate in this process to review applications from nonprofits requesting funds from United Way of Davidson County. These volunteers make decisions on how to allocate funding to a variety of local agencies doing life-changing work. Our community relies on these volunteers to act as stewards for funds by the United Way of Davidson County. You can be part of this amazing group!
The Davidson County Branch NAACP Education Committee is striving to improve and increase our county residents’ awareness of the importance of celebrating Juneteenth. We are hoping that by co-sponsoring this Essay Contest, students and adults will be engaged and encouraged to talk to their teachers, parents and friends in an effort to learn more about the origin and significance of this celebration as it relates to Freedom and the hope of enjoying all the rights and privileges as an American citizen for people of color.
