With the possibility of icy conditions in the western part of the state and below average temperatures expected as an arctic mass approaches, Governor Roy Cooper signed a State of Emergency today to activate the state’s emergency operations plan, waive transportation regulations to help the transport of fuel and critical supplies, help first responders and protect consumers from price gouging.
High Rock Church of Lexington is opening our church building to serve as a warm shelter during the extreme weather that is coming. We will open the doors at 9 pm Friday Night, December 23rd and Saturday night December 24th. On Saturday and Sunday mornings we will close the building at 9 am.
The Lexington Senior High School Class of 1989 Alumni, friends, and community donors had a BBQ and gave away over 75 bikes to youth in the Terrace Lane Community on Saturday, December 17, 2022. This is an ongoing tradition.
On December 17, 2022, members of the Davidson County Fraternal Order of Police(FOP) Lodge #97 conducted its annual “COPS & KIDS CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENT,” by taking 28 children Christmas shopping at the Walmart Supercenter,1585 Liberty Drive, Ste. 1, in Thomasville. The Lodge spent approximately $4,000.00 on the purchase of toys and clothes for this event.
According to the petition: “Animal Control Officers are often hindered by “vague & non-existent laws” they need in order to do their job properly for the animals in the community. Each city and county has the right to implement their own ordinances, while following our state animal welfare laws as well.”
Leadership Davidson County is accepting applications at either the Thomasville or Lexington Chamber office between now and January 27th.
Davidson County’s District 22 B courtroom has been named in honor of Judge Mark Klass. The senior judge was celebrated by family, friends and colleagues.

On December 8, 2022, members of the Davidson County Fraternal Order of Police(FOP) Lodge #97 conducted its “Christmas Toys For Stoner-Thomas School Event,” by delivering 97 Christmas gift bags to these wonderful children and adults at this school. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, the Thomasville Police Department, and the Lexington Police Department assisted with the delivery of the gift bags.
More than sixty guests gathered for the first annual Johnny Leroy “Lee Lee” Dawkins Scholarship “Where Are They Now” program on Sunday, December 11 at Lexington’s Edward C. Smith Civic Center. The event and silent auction served as a fundraiser for the scholarship fund that began 11 years ago after Johnny Leroy Dawkins Jr. was tragically killed in gun violence.

This year will feature free entertainment for the kids including face paintings and balloon animals, located at the Depot (44 W Main St), Thomasville’s historic train station. Guests are encouraged to bring their little ones between 10:30 and 12:30 p.m. Leading the way, this year's Grand Marshal for the day will be none other than NASCAR driver Timmy Hill of Hill Motorsports. It will additionally feature 115 parade participants and a stilt walker.
United Furniture abruptly closed Triad plants. NCWorks and DavidsonWorks of Davidson County are hosting a job and resource fair Wednesday morning in response to recent abrupt layoffs by United Furniture in the Triad, including an upholstery plant in Lexington and a warehouse in Linwood.
A quorum of the City Council may be in attendance and may participate in the discussion, but only committee members may vote.
