All in Faith & Fellowship

First Reformed UCC Prayer Shawl Ministry

Over the centuries, shawls have come to symbolize shelter, peace, and spiritual sustenance. Today, knitters and crocheters of all faiths are creating handmade shawls for people in need, as gifts of comfort, hope, and peace. “Shawls...made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles...” Written in 1998 by Janet Severt Bristow.

Faith and Fellowship: There Is Freedom

When we think of July Fourth, we usually think of cookouts, fireworks, celebrating and spending time with friends and family. We should also take the time to celebrate all the freedoms we are given.
I pray that your spiritual celebration on the 4th of July will mirror what we have been taught in
1st Peter 2:16, Live as people who are free not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.

Faith and Fellowship: Kindness is a lifestyle, it's a daily practice

Jesus was more than kind. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body; Whenever we are kinds to others, God begins to smile on us. The word of God teaches us to love our neighbors as yourself. Being kind is loving others as yourself. Ephesians 4:32 , Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

First Reformed UCC Community Garden undergoing restoration - volunteers needed

With an initial grant from the Davidson County Health Department and ongoing support from the Church consistory and the Lexington Garden Club, volunteers and paid garden workers from the Open Hands Ministry of Davidson County have added an automated irrigation system, raised metal garden beds and a pollinator garden to attract bees and butterflies to the vegetable garden.

First Reformed UCC: Critical Conversations on Faith and Race

Birthed out of a desire to impact the city on a larger scale, four churches formed a partnership that has been life changing. In 2017, Dave Fulton led the effort for First Reformed to find ways to reach out more to the community. He reached out to St. Stephen United Methodist Church, Shady Side Presbyterian Church and Second Reformed United Church of Christ. We were looking for ministries that we as a group could do that were maybe bigger than any one church could do alone.
